SEO in Sacramento, and the AI answers that now come before it
We do the local SEO that puts you in Google's map pack and organic results, and the answer engine work that gets your business named when someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI who to call. One team, one monthly plan, no lock-in.
What does SEO cost per month in Sacramento?
At IG Digital Lab in Sacramento, an SEO and AEO launch is a one-time project of $2,500 to $6,000, with the exact number set after a free audit. Ongoing monthly work is separate: Care at $300 to $500 a month, or Active at $750 to $1,500 when we publish and tune continuously. No lock-in.
Most agencies quote a flat monthly retainer and quietly spend the first three months doing the setup work. We split it, because the two jobs are different sizes. The launch is a burst of fixes that happens once: technical cleanup, schema, Google Business Profile, the core pages, the citation sweep. The monthly is the part that only pays off if it keeps happening: new content, new answers, listing hygiene, and the tracking that tells you whether any of it moved.
Where you stand today, in writing.
- Technical and on-page crawl of your site
- Google Business Profile and listing check
- What ChatGPT and Perplexity say about you now
Everything that only needs doing once.
- Technical SEO, speed, crawlability, internal links
- Schema, llms.txt, answer-first page structure
- Google Business Profile rebuild and citation sweep
The part that compounds.
- Care, $300 to $500: profile, listings, fixes, reporting
- Active, $750 to $1,500: continuous content and tuning
- Month to month, cancel at the end of any month
One-off work outside a plan is $150 to $200 an hour. If SEO turns out to be one piece of a bigger job, connecting several systems runs $6,000 to $15,000, and full custom builds start at $15,000. The whole ladder is on the pricing page, and nothing gets quoted before the audit.
Local SEO vs AEO: what changed in 2026
Local SEO is how you show up in Google's map pack and organic results for Sacramento searches. AEO, answer engine optimization, is how you get named inside an AI answer: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity. IG Digital Lab does both, because they now run on overlapping signals.
What actually changed is where the answer lives. A person searching for a Sacramento contractor, dentist or law firm used to land on a page of links and pick one. Now they often get a written answer above the links, or they skip Google and ask an assistant directly. If your business is not in that answer, the ranking underneath it matters less than it used to.
Three things are worth knowing about how those answers get built. Google's AI surfaces pull from the open web and from Google Business Profile data, and they name far fewer businesses than a map pack does. ChatGPT reads its own index plus Bing's, and for local business questions it now leans on licensed review-site data, which means your Yelp and Google profiles are inputs to an AI answer, not just directory entries. Perplexity fetches pages live, cites a handful per answer, and gives weight to information placed near the top of a page rather than buried at the bottom.
The practical upshot is that the two disciplines have stopped being separate budgets. A page with a clear question as its heading, the answer directly underneath, correct schema and a name, address and phone that match everywhere else on the web is easier for Google to rank and easier for an assistant to quote. That is the same page. We build it once.
| Dimension | Local SEO | AEO |
|---|---|---|
| Where you appear | Google map pack and local organic results | Inside the answer: AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity |
| Biggest levers | Google Business Profile, reviews, proximity, on-page relevance | Page content and structure, schema, listing consistency, mentions elsewhere |
| What you get | A click you can count | Often a mention without a click, so the mention has to carry your name and number |
| How it is measured | Rankings, Search Console, profile insights | Ask the assistants the buyer's question and record the answer, monthly |
| How it moves | Gradually, over weeks and months | In steps: nothing, then suddenly named, then more accurate |
Honest note: the text on your site is not the whole job
Assistants cross-check what your website claims against what the rest of the web says about you. Your Google reviews, your listings on the aggregators and directories the models read, and mentions on sites they trust all feed the same judgment. A well-structured page is the piece we control directly, and it is the piece most Sacramento businesses are missing, so it is where the fastest gains are. But if your name, address and phone disagree across a dozen old listings, or you have no reviews at all, the page will do part of the job and not all of it.
We say this in the audit, not after six months of invoices. Reviews are something you have to earn from real customers, and no agency should be manufacturing them for you. What we can do is fix everything else and show you honestly, month by month, what the assistants are saying while you build the review base. More on the mechanics in our AI search visibility service and in the deeper write-up on how to get recommended by ChatGPT and Perplexity.
What we do every month
Six repeating pieces of work. The first month is heavier because of the launch, then it settles into this rhythm.
Baseline and re-check
Crawl the site, check index coverage and Core Web Vitals, pull current queries and positions, and record what the AI assistants say about your business today. Everything after this is measured against that baseline.
Google Business Profile
Primary and secondary categories, services, hours, service area, photos, posts, questions and answers, and replies to every review. For a local business this is usually the fastest single lever in the whole plan.
Technical SEO and schema
Speed, mobile layout, crawlability, internal linking, canonical and sitemap hygiene, LocalBusiness and Service and FAQPage schema, and an llms.txt file. Content that only appears after JavaScript runs does not reliably exist for AI crawlers, so we keep the important parts in the HTML.
Answer-first pages
Pages built around the questions your buyers actually type and speak: one question per heading, a direct answer in the first paragraph, details after. It reads better for people and it is the shape an assistant can lift and quote.
Citations and NAP consistency
One exact name, address and phone everywhere: the big data aggregators, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, chambers and industry directories. Old records with a previous address or a dead phone number get corrected or killed.
AI-answer tracking
A fixed list of buyer questions, asked of ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI the same way every month, with the answers saved. That is how you tell whether AI visibility is improving instead of guessing.
How we report
Once a month IG Digital Lab sends one short report for your Sacramento business: Google Search Console (impressions, clicks, queries, pages), Google Business Profile insights (views, calls, direction requests), and an AI-citation check where we ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI what your buyers ask, and record the answers.
No dashboard login you will never open, no forty-page PDF. Three surfaces, the numbers that moved, the numbers that did not, and what we are doing about it next month. If something went the wrong way, it is in the report with the reason.
Google Search Console
The primary source of truth for organic search: which queries you appear for, where you sit, what people click, and which pages are actually being indexed. We connect it in week one, so the history starts building immediately.
Google Business Profile insights
Profile views, searches that surfaced you, calls from the listing, direction requests and website clicks. For a local business these are closer to revenue than a keyword position, so we lead with them.
Monthly AI-citation check
The same prompts, asked the same way, across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI, with the answers captured. You see whether the assistants name you, name a competitor, or get your details wrong, and how that shifts month to month.
We run this on our own site first
The schema, the llms.txt and the answer-first structure on this page are the same things we install for clients. Our own phone line is answered by an AI agent our team built, and we track our own AI citations on the same monthly cadence. It is a small thing, but it means we are not selling a technique we have never had to live with. The rest of what we build sits next to it: web design in Sacramento, IT support and servers, and AI automation for Sacramento businesses.
Where we work
Our office is at 3550 Watt Ave, Suite 408, in Arden-Arcade, inside the city of Sacramento. We meet on site across the metro, and the SEO, AEO and software work itself is delivered remotely nationwide. We work in English and Russian, which matters to a good part of the Sacramento business community.

Priced by scope, not by keyword count
Every engagement starts with a free audit. We look at the site, the profile and what the assistants already say about you, then give you a fixed scope and a number.
Nothing monthly starts until you have seen exactly what it buys.
Frequently asked questions
What Sacramento businesses ask us before signing up for SEO.
How long does SEO take to work in Sacramento?
Technical fixes and schema land in the first few weeks, and a Google Business Profile that has never been optimized often moves faster than that. For local rankings on competitive terms, plan on 3 to 6 months of steady work. We aim to show measurable movement in Search Console inside the first month, but no honest agency can guarantee a ranking.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No. The launch project is one time, $2,500 to $6,000, scoped in writing before anything starts. Ongoing work is month to month: Care at $300 to $500, or Active at $750 to $1,500 when we are publishing and tuning continuously. You can stop at the end of any month, and everything we build or write stays yours.
Can you get my business named by ChatGPT and Perplexity?
We can make it much more likely, and we can measure it, but we do not promise it. Assistants weigh your website against your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your listings on the sites they pull from. We fix everything on your side of that list and report every month on what the assistants actually answer.
Do you optimize Google Business Profile, or only the website?
Both, and for most Sacramento local businesses the profile is the faster win. We set the primary and secondary categories, services, hours, service area, photos, posts and Q and A, and we reply to reviews. It is part of the monthly work, and profile views, calls and direction requests are in the monthly report.
What if the website itself is the problem?
Then we say so before selling you monthly SEO. A slow, thin or hard-to-crawl site caps what any optimization can do. We build and rebuild sites too, see web design in Sacramento, and we run the servers and IT support behind them, so the fix does not need a second vendor.
